it's been a while - Happy 2013!

It's been busy around our house! Esmae is now three and a half and has a baby brother! She is still making art and especially loves painting. We have an easel set up with watercolours so she can work on her own, no setup or cleanup really necessary. She'll just stroll by and make a few brushstrokes or hang out and focus on a painting for as long as she likes (this is an age of real control-freakness!). I made a calendar of her paintings this year - here are the images!

First Painting!

I found these great little paint brushes at a dollar store. They have paint in the handle so she just has to squeeze to make it flow. Brush painting shortly became finger painting... which quickly became body painting!

LOTS of fun ensues, including the cleanup! Thank goodness she loves splashing in water so much. This is my favorite one, (the first she made). Silver on white - the girl's got style! Definitely a framer.

Lomo photos

It has been brought to my attention that some of the photos I last posted are by Daddy and not Esmae!! Oops. These Lomo photos are totally hers - I saw her take 'em with my iPod.

photos

It amazes me how adept small children can be. Esmae is a little obsessed with the iPod. She can turn it on, scroll through photos, go to videos, and play the one she wants! She also loves my digital camera. It gives me an excuse to get myself a new one so that she can have mine - it's pretty old and a bit of a tank, so she can drop it, scratch it, smear crayon onto the lens, whatever... She takes some pretty cool abstract images and also some insightful Esmae's-eye views of the goings-on around here.

collage cards

Esmae loves stickers. We are avid collectors. I recently brought this stack of recycled cards - along with crayons and a stash of stickers - in her tiny purse, to a friend's wedding to keep her occupied. She made this amazing series of sticker collage drawings. I think she has an amazing composition sense, no?
